Call for Entries
All That Jazz: Improvisational Quilts, curated by Ricky Tims, is a collection of quilts that will be displayed at the Road to California Quilt Show January 19-22, 2012.
Description of Exhibition
A collection of improvised quilts where pre-planned designs are set aside in order that whim and spontaneity may prevail. What is an improvisational quilt? Any quilt that is started without a predetermined pattern or plan and evolves throughout the construction process. Each quilt in this exhibition should have emerged from the seed of an idea without fully knowing what the finished piece would look like. Sixteen to Twenty quilts will be chosen for the exhibit, depending on size. There is maximum of two submissions per person and submissions are free of charge.
This is not a competition. The quilts that are selected will not be judged. A Certificate of Exhibition will be awarded to each quilt chosen for display. This is a one-time, special exhibit highlighting the best of the best from "free-spirit" quilters around the world.
Submission Rules
1. Design must be totally original and all entries must be completely finished when submitted. The quilt must be three layers, front, batting, and a back layer. Edges must be bound or finished with other edge finishing methods.
2. The quilt must be made by no more than two people - from start to finish.
3. Embellishments and other surface design treatments are permitted.
4. Quilts can be made by hand, machine, or combination of both.
5. The outside perimeter of quilt should be no less than 120 inches. There is no maximum size restriction, however quilts that are chosen for display that are higher than 96" must have a sleeve sewn at 96" from the bottom of the quilt and the remaining top portion will drape behind the display and not be seen.
